fresh from your kitchen: aloe + tea tree after-sun cooler

This past weekend was HOT in Santa Barbara and many other areas of our country! We embraced summer full force, surfing and hanging at the beach most of the weekend. It gave Pete and I lots of opportunities to put the new Cali Sun SPF 30 stick to the test! I've been product testing this for many months, but not yet in this intense summer sun and a full afternoon at the beach. As an avid water sport lover and sun stick user, I have to say this new product works wonders! I re-applied a few times throughout the day, and through the sun and waves it kept my face from burning (and as of Tuesday, no breakouts either!)

After a hot day in the sun, it's great to cool down and rehydrate. Try this fresh, cooling spritz on your skin in the hot weather... enjoy!

ingredients
8oz spray bottle
2 mint leaves
5 oz (weak) green tea
3 oz organic aloe juice
15 drops tea tree essential oil
15 drops lavender essential oil

directions
~brew a weak pot of green tea and let cool.
~add all ingredients to the bottle using a funnel.
~shake and chill in the fridge for a few hours before using. I also like to store this in the fridge to intensify the cooling effect when sprayed on the skin!
what it does...
green tea is rich in powerful polyphenol antioxidants. The caffeine in the green tea helps constrict pores and eliminate fluid waste and detox your skin.

aloe gently moisturizes, replenishes and calms the skin.

tea tree is naturally cooling. It has been referred to as the jack-of-all trades for problematic skin EOs... great for irritated skin including acne, insect bites, rashes, ring worm.

lavender has so many amazing properties: calming, antiseptic, antibacterial and has been know to help acne, scarring, winkles, burns, sunburns, eczema and psoriasis.

a peek inside the store: a few new creature comforts

We're constantly adding new things to the store, sometimes it's products, classes, our new party menu, or just things to make it comfy and a place you'd like to hang. We just spent a few hours this weekend sprucing up the store and adding some more creature comforts... check it out
As many locals have seen (and commented) our parking lot has been busy lately. The construction next door is finally done and all of our neighbors are now open! We've reserved a few spots in front of our store for you all; there is also 90 min. parking on the street. We're also waiting on approval from the city for our awning and permanent sign... adventures in being a small business in SB :) Keep your fingers crossed we'll see it up this spring, we've seen plans and it's going to be beautiful!
We love the scent bar.
You love the scent bar.
Kids love the scent bar... now they can reach it!
We have a great new stool to boost little ones up
to mix their soapy concoctions.
we added some furniture to lounge, hang out and read magazines while your friends blend at the bar.
Mr. Dirty Dog Organics, Surf, AKA "the greeting committee"
now has a place to lounge next to you.
The last cheery little upgrade is to the back office. I found this beautiful quilt my mom made in storage this weekend and decided to give it a new home. It's happy and inspiring colorful pattern has been bringing smiles to the office... that's always good, right?

What a difference a year can make!

2010 was an amazing year of change for us, with so many exciting turn of events it's hard to believe looking back on things that it all happened in just one year...
(which might explain why I keep asking people where 2010 went!)

At exactly this time last year, we were over the moon thrilled to be moving The Grapeseed Co. into a "real" office building. We could not have done this without the incredible team at Rightscale, a cloud computing company who let us sublet some unused space and set up a production kitchen and office in their new office building.
Just shy of six months later, we signed on the dotted line to open the first Grapeseed Co. store in downtown Santa Barbara. My handy hubby spent his summer break (he's a high school teacher) helping me plaster, build, paint and create the lovely oasis that is both our current storefront and manufacturing facility. It's been 4 months since we've opened our retail doors and it still brings a smile to my face each morning when I walk in. (Maybe I'm smiling just a bit because I know we will not be moving the business twice in 2011 like we did in 2010!)

We added some incredible members to The Grapeseed Co. team. We are so thankful to be working with such talented, kind, smart, eco-conscious people each day.

I joined forces with Lisa Rodgers of Cactus and Ivy to launch Personal Care Truth (PCT)- a cosmetic information portal based on science backed info, not scare tactics. In 7 months we've added 12 experts in various facets of the cosmetics industry from all over the USA to Europe & Australia. We've taken the approach that sharing scientific info and discussing it is not only a huge positive for those in our industry, but for everyone who uses personal care products. Consumers can ask the experts in the industry questions and get real answers about what they are putting on their skin rather than sifting through the false marketing claims and misinformation that is plaguing the internet and other forms of media lately.

We launched Baby g, Whipped Grapeseed Body Butters, Body Washes and additions to our Mojito Man, Wine Bar Organic Soap and Vinotherapy Skin Care lines, all because so many of you contacted us and asked to do so! In addition, I set up my little dream- a self scent bar in the store where you can create and customize your own natural skin care products. I also started teaching classes on making natural skin care and all its fabulous benefits.

Most of all, I am incredibly thankful to all of you for loving our products and spreading the word about us. None of these milestones would have been achievable without you. May 2011 bring you all you wish for along with peace, health & happiness.

 cheers,
